Abstract

Kebakalan is one of the villages in Karanggayam District, Kebumen, Central Java. This village has an area of 360.20 hectares consisting of land and mountains which are dominated by mountains. Kebakalan village consists of three hamlets with a density of 125 people/km2. Most of the population depend on agriculture for their livelihood. The community of Kebakalan Village has now formed a forum for the Empon-empon Farmer Group and SME’s "Mugi Waras" as a medium of communication and exchange of information in the cultivation of empon-empon plants and their products. The main problem faced by empon-empon farmers is that they have not been able to control how to process empon-empon into flour/powder. Farmers still sell empon-empon to collectors at prices that tend to fall from year to year. This is due to the increasing number of farmers who come from various regions in Indonesia. So far, empon-empon are only sold to traditional markets or bought by middlemen at low prices. Various obstacles are still encountered by this group of farmers so that it requires a helping hand from stakeholders, including universities. The implementation method used to overcome the problem is the assistance of post-harvest processing techniques for empon-empon and marketing. The method of implementing the activities includes: training materials using technology transfer media in the form of written modules, shows, and videos as well as direct practice in the field. Assistance is also expected to ensure that improvement programs are implemented consistently. Through technical assistance in processing empon-empon into ready-to-brewed powder, making product packaging and marketing, strategic and technical aspects can be carried out. Assistance is also expected to ensure that improvement programs are implemented consistently. Lecturers are assisted by students, can more intensely help partners to break out of the main problems.
