Publication Ethics

Jurnal Ilmiah Lingkungan Kebumian (JILK) is committed to upholding the highest ethical standards in academic publishing. In alignment with the COPE Best Practice Guidelines, this ethical policy outlines the responsibilities of authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher to maintain integrity, transparency, and fairness throughout the publication process.

Publisher’s Commitment

As the publisher of JILK, the Environmental Engineering Study Program at UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta ensures editorial independence and the integrity of the review process. All editorial decisions are made without influence from commercial or institutional interests. The editorial board supports ethical publishing and fosters cooperation with other journals and publishers when necessary.

Allegations of Research Misconduct

Misconduct includes fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, citation manipulation, and unethical research practices. Suspected cases are investigated following COPE guidelines. If proven, the manuscript may be rejected or the published article retracted with a public notice. Authors are given an opportunity to respond during the review process.

Authorship and Contributorship

Only individuals who have made a significant contribution to the research should be listed as authors. All authors must approve the final manuscript and agree to its submission. Those who contributed to the work but do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged accordingly.

Complaints and Appeals

JILK provides a transparent process for addressing complaints regarding editorial decisions, reviewer conduct, or ethical concerns. Complaints will be reviewed in accordance with COPE’s guidance and handled professionally and impartially.

Data Access and Reproducibility

Authors are encouraged to retain and share their raw data to ensure reproducibility and transparency. Where possible, data should be made publicly accessible or be available upon request.

Ethical Oversight in Research

For research involving humans, animals, or hazardous materials, ethical clearance must be obtained and clearly stated in the manuscript. Authors must describe how they protect confidential or sensitive information when relevant.

Responsibilities of Each Party

Authors Must:

  • Submit original, accurate, and complete work

  • Avoid plagiarism and redundant publication

  • Properly cite all sources

  • Disclose any conflicts of interest

  • Report any significant errors post-publication for correction or retraction

Reviewers Must:

  • Maintain confidentiality of the manuscript

  • Report potential ethical issues to the editor

  • Decline reviews when conflicts of interest exist

Intellectual Property & Copyright

All articles in JILK are published under an open-access license (e.g., CC BY), allowing unrestricted use with proper attribution. Authors retain copyright of their work.

Post-Publication Discussions and Corrections

JILK encourages post-publication dialogue. Readers may submit letters to the editor, and if warranted, a correction or retraction may be issued. Authors will have the opportunity to respond to any public commentary.

Plagiarism Screening

All submissions are screened for plagiarism using similarity detection software. Manuscripts with similarity scores exceeding 30% may be rejected or returned for revision.
