The slopes of Mount Merapi are a fertile area and suitable for agricultural areas, but unfortunately this area is also an area affected by disasters. The most visible impact is the environmental damage to the chrysanthemum cultivation center area in Hargobinangun village, Pakem, Sleman and the result is that flower farmers become stagnant for some time. The current consequence is that the number of flower farmers and farmer groups has decreased drastically. Initially there were 13 farmer groups, now there are only 7 farmer groups. Before the eruption of Merapi, production plantations were capable of producing over 500 thousand stalks/season, currently they are only able to produce 200-400 thousand stalks/season, and that too at very cheap prices. This is due to the low quality of the flowers produced. To accommodate all activities in farmer groups as well as marketing cut flower products and chrysanthemum seeds, it is carried out by the ASTHA BUNDA farmer group (GAPOKTAN), which is a combination of 7 (seven) farmer groups in Hargobinangun village. Gapoktan Astha Bundha located in Panggerang hamlet will accommodate all cut flower products produced by farmer groups as well as carry out post-harvest handling.
The method used in this activity is the implementation of 'Business and Technology Incubation', namely developing 'ASTHA BUNDA' chrysanthemum farmer SMEs through counseling and practice of improving chrysanthemum planting techniques; on-farm extension; on-farm technical guidance; application of cultivation technology on production land; post-harvest according to SOP as well as training to improve the quality of MSME management (accounting, management, human resources, production, finance, marketing/commercialization). Activities have been carried out for farmer groups who are members of Gapoktan Astha Bunda in Panggeran hamlet, Hargobinangun regarding making JAKABA fertilizer and handling harvest & post-harvest flowers on June 27 2024 and continued with assistance until JAKABA fertilizer can be applied
