Publication Ethics
KAPAI: Journal of Disaster Management and Environment is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and takes all possible measures against publication malpractice. The publication of articles in peer-reviewed journals is an essential part of developing a credible and respected body of scientific knowledge. It reflects the quality of the work of the authors, reviewers, editors, and the institutions that support them.
All parties involved in the publication process—including authors, editors, reviewers, the publisher, and journal management—are expected to adhere to ethical standards that uphold principles of integrity, transparency, objectivity, and academic responsibility.
- Duties of the Publisher and Journal Management
The publisher and journal management are responsible for:
- Establishing the journal’s title, focus and scope, publication policies, and long-term development strategy.
- Appointing and maintaining a qualified and competent editorial board.
- Defining clear roles and responsibilities among the publisher, editors, reviewers, and other related parties.
- Ensuring the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and all communications during the editorial and review process.
- Upholding applicable laws and ethical standards related to intellectual property rights, copyright, and licensing.
- Providing clear publication policies and ethical guidelines for authors, editors, reviewers, and readers.
- Supporting the implementation of editorial policies and publication ethics consistently.
- Ensuring the journal is published regularly and sustainably.
- Supporting the availability of resources necessary for the continuity and quality of journal publication.
- Promoting the journal’s visibility, accessibility, and academic reputation through appropriate networking and dissemination efforts.
- Ensuring that all legal and administrative requirements related to journal publishing are fulfilled.
- Duties of Editors
Editors are responsible for:
- Evaluating submitted manuscripts based on their academic merit, originality, relevance to the journal’s scope, clarity, and contribution to the field.
- Making editorial decisions fairly, objectively, and without discrimination based on race, gender, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.
- Ensuring that all submitted manuscripts undergo a fair and appropriate peer review process.
- Maintaining the confidentiality of manuscripts and not disclosing any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, editorial advisers, or the publisher, as appropriate.
- Avoiding conflicts of interest and recusing themselves from handling manuscripts in which they have competing interests.
- Taking reasonable steps to identify and prevent the publication of papers involving misconduct, including plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, or unethical research practices.
- Requesting corrections, clarifications, retractions, or apologies when necessary.
- Maintaining the integrity of the academic record.
- Encouraging authors to revise and improve their manuscripts when appropriate.
- Supporting efforts to educate authors and reviewers about publication ethics and good scholarly practice.
- Duties of Reviewers
Reviewers are responsible for:
- Assisting editors in making editorial decisions and, through editorial communication, helping authors improve the quality of their manuscripts.
- Reviewing manuscripts objectively, constructively, and within the agreed timeframe.
- Declining to review manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, institutional, or other relationships with any of the authors or related institutions.
- Treating all manuscripts received for review as confidential documents and not sharing or discussing them with others without authorization from the editor.
- Identifying relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors.
- Alerting the editor to any substantial similarity, overlap, plagiarism, or other ethical concern identified in the manuscript.
- Evaluating manuscripts based on scholarly merit, including originality, methodological rigor, clarity of presentation, and relevance to the journal’s scope.
- Duties of Authors
Authors are responsible for:
- Submitting original work that has not been published previously and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere in any language.
- Ensuring that all listed authors have made significant contributions to the work and meet the criteria for authorship.
- Ensuring that all co-authors have approved the final version of the manuscript and agreed to its submission.
- Presenting an accurate account of the research performed, including sufficient detail and appropriate references to allow others to replicate or evaluate the work.
- Ensuring that data, methods, analyses, and interpretations are presented honestly and accurately.
- Acknowledging all sources of funding and other forms of support for the research.
- Properly citing the work of others and avoiding plagiarism in all forms.
- Disclosing any potential conflicts of interest that may influence the results or interpretation of the manuscript.
- Clearly stating the limitations of the study where appropriate.
- Responding to reviewers’ comments professionally, respectfully, and in a timely manner.
- Promptly notifying the editor if a significant error or inaccuracy is discovered in the submitted or published work, and cooperating in correcting or retracting the article when necessary.
- Providing ethical clearance or evidence of ethical approval when the research involves human participants, animals, or other studies requiring ethical review, where applicable.
