Plagiarism Policy
Definition of Plagiarism
Jurnal Ilmiah Lingkungan Kebumian defines plagiarism as the use of ideas, data, text, or other intellectual property of others without proper acknowledgment, resulting in a misleading claim of authorship. This includes verbatim copying, improper paraphrasing, self-plagiarism, and duplicate or redundant publication. The journal applies a zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism in any form.
Plagiarism Screening and Similarity Index
All manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Ilmiah Lingkungan Kebumian are screened for plagiarism using plagiarism detection software at any stage of the editorial process. The journal applies a maximum overall similarity index of 25%, excluding references, quotations, and commonly used methodological expressions. Manuscripts exceeding this threshold or containing significant unattributed overlap will be subject to further editorial evaluation and may be rejected.
Unacceptable Publication Practices
The following practices are considered unethical and unacceptable:
- Verbatim plagiarism, involving substantial copying of text without proper citation;
- Inadequate paraphrasing, where original sources are insufficiently reworded or improperly cited;
- Self-plagiarism (text recycling), involving reuse of substantial portions of previously published work without clear acknowledgment;
- Duplicate or redundant publication, in which substantially similar manuscripts are submitted to or published in more than one publication venue without transparent disclosure.
Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality of their manuscripts and for appropriately citing all sources.
Editorial Actions and Sanctions
Suspected cases of plagiarism are handled in accordance with COPE guidelines and are evaluated based on the extent and context of the overlap. Authors may be requested to provide clarification or revision. If the explanation is deemed unsatisfactory, the manuscript will be rejected. The journal reserves the right to impose sanctions, including the rejection of future submissions.
If plagiarism is identified after publication, the journal may issue a correction, expression of concern, or retraction, depending on the severity of the case and its impact on the integrity of the scholarly record.
Duplicate and Redundant Publication
Manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Ilmiah Lingkungan Kebumian must not be under review, accepted, or published elsewhere. Authors must disclose any related or overlapping publications at the time of submission. Consideration may be given only if the manuscript presents substantially new results, analysis, or interpretation and includes appropriate citation of the previous work.
Use of Previously Published Materials
Authors who reuse figures, tables, or other copyrighted materials must obtain written permission from the copyright holder and provide proper acknowledgment. The editorial team assumes that all submitted materials comply with copyright regulations and may request documentation at any stage of the publication process.
Reporting Plagiarism
Editors, reviewers, and readers are encouraged to report suspected plagiarism to the editorial office. All reports will be treated confidentially and investigated thoroughly in accordance with ethical publishing standards.
